What's on and coming up...

Here's what's happening in our creative space, the Sail Loft, the NaviStitch shop, and on Manningtree High Street over the coming weeks...

A post-it note with 'thank you' written on it

Before we look at what's coming up, we'd like to thank all of you that visited Manningtree, Lawford and Mistley throughout our Art Around the Walls weekend recently. The weather was not our friend, and some of our artists had to make adaptions and revert to 'plan B', but we all still managed to have a great weekend, and all of our artists were thrilled to meet so many of you. Thanks also to all of you who so generously placed bids on each of the pieces donated by our artists. We managed to raise just over £1,400 for Acorn Village's Creative Crafts Centre - artists certainly supported artists that weekend and we know it'll go a long way to helping with the hugely worthwhile work that they all do.

Here's to next year's trail - may it outdo this year's in terms of sunshine!

In the Sail Loft...
An A-frame advertising board for Colchester Art Society exhibition

This week in our gallery space, we're delighted to have welcomed members of Colchester Art Society - their print and 3D works exhibition will be with us until the end of next week - 27th July.

This Saturday, 20th July, from 12noon until 2pm there will be a 'meet the maker' party in the Sail Loft and you're all invited.

Come along if you can and chat to each of the artists about their work, their techniques and the Art Society too.

Next up....

From the 30th July until 3rd August we have 2 artists in our Sail Loft Gallery: Kay Lucas and Pamela Hatswell.

🎨 Kay will be bringing her paintings: acrylics and pastels of things that she's inspired by, particularly sunsets and boats, both realistic and abstract.

👩‍🏫 Pamela will be offering macrame workshops on the following dates:

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning from 10:30-12:30 and

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons 1:30-3:30

Workshops are just £15 and refreshments/all materials are provided.

To book any of the dates, call Pamela: 07971 675120 or email: pamelahat@icloud.com

And then...

We're so excited at what's coming up in August - one newcomer to our Sail Loft Gallery, and one returning artist that we're delighted to welcome back:

From 6th-17th we've got massively talented wood turning artist Chris Harvey joining us for his debut exhibition.

Chris's work features steampunk elements, resin and a whole host of different types of wood!

From 20th-31st August, we're joined by returning artist Duffy Tomei. Here's how she describes herself: "Once a performing arts lecturer, I can’t help but notice movement and music, and am overwhelmed by the song and dance Mother Nature performs, both at sea and on land. These images are the inspiration for my work. I love to paint on large canvases using knife and oil or acrylic, implementing strong gestures to create powerful stormy moving images, but just like nature, there are times to create delicate watercolours dancing on smaller canvases"

Get these dates in your diary and keep an eye on our calendar for all exhibitions and events.

In the NaviStitch Shop
Five different picture frames with 'bespoke picture framing' inside them

I'm on Sailing Barge Thalatta next week from Tuesday to Friday, feeding the crew. Mr NaviStitch will be looking after the shop so, if you'd like to place a framing order, I'll be back on Saturday.

In Manningtree...

A few dates for your diary:

Poster for Manningtree Beer Festival

Tomorrow and Saturday (19th/20th), Manningtree Beer Festival on Quay Street:

Friday: 5:30-9:30pm

Saturday 12:30-9:30pm

26th July: Manningtree Makers Market - our regular street market on Market Square

And finally...

As well as my own art, I also enjoy working on commissions. Here are a couple of my latest ones:

Nautical stitched picture with an inset blown-up section framed with a magnifying glass graphic

This one's a custom design, and the boat is a West Solent.

The piece is being gifted to my customer's father who has one of these beautiful classic boats and has recently moved to Guernsey.

Nautical stitched art feating a beehive on an ordnance survey map

This one's an unusual but exciting piece. My customer is gifting it to her daughter whose home is on this section of the OS map - just too far inland for one of my usual navigation charts!

The daughter is a bee keeper and Hazel is the name of her first hive.

I used silver beads stitched on to the map for the Honey Bees buzzing around the hive, and the final piece was then presented in one of our Burmese Teak frames.

If you're making memories and would like to celebrate them, or you know someone who's celebrating and would like to mark the occasion, think about commissioning a piece of nautical stitched art.

Take a look at how easy it is to order your own unique piece created from maritime charts, both new and old - many of them fairly local. Always ask if you're looking for somewhere special - I've a huge collection.

Now that we can also take orders for bespoke framing in-store, the whole thing's as easy

Until next time, I wish you calm waters and plain sailing

Sam
