Being based in Manningtree gives us the advantage of not only have our wonderful NaviStitch shop and upstairs Sail Loft Gallery, but also the chance to be a part of so many amazing celebrations, festivals and events. Read more about what's coming up.

In the Sail Loft...

It's the last week, this week, for our Affordable Art Show. Work from many of the artists that have exhibited with us previously, as well artists new to the Sail Loft have their work with us - and all of it under £100. We have original art, limited edition prints, framed and unframed works, we have ceramics, textiles and photography and mixed media pieces. There are also browsers full of work - we know that there's something for everyone and, with Fathers' Day coming up soon, it may be just the place for that perfect gift.
Coming up next...
From 31st May to 11th June inclusive (more about Sunday 11th later!), we've delighted to be joined in by Jayson Fletcher and his array of carved wooden fish:
Jayson's magnificent fish are created from mostly local reclaimed wood along with materials such as brass, copper and old boat fittings. Each one has a story to tell. Find out more here.
And then...
We've got an exhibition from Wisdom Art Prints between 14th June and 24th June. Their art deco style illustrations of familiar local scenes are hugely popular. Reminiscent of travel posters from a bygone era, this work is brought to us from their Tiptree-based studio.
And wrapping up June...

Art Around the Walls takes place in Mistley and Manningtree on 1st and 2nd July - you can see the work of 22 artists at 16 different venues.
At NaviStitch we're hosting the work of Amanda Clement-Robinson, Jem Gooding, Liesel Kennedy and Sue Bedford, alongside my own work as an independent artist.
We're also exhibiting a single piece of work from each of the artists taking part in the trail, all of which have been donated and are for sale by sealed bid with the aim of raising funds to put back into community projects benefitting our town. Click here for more details
In the area...
As well as Art Around the Walls, there are also other things happening in our fabulous town:
Bank Holiday Monday sees the Mistley Pram Race - basically a 'pram' is anything with four wheels and without an engine! There's a dog show, food stalls and all kinds of music and entertainment too - should be great day!
Manningtree Earth Festival: A great event on 11th June to inspire everyone in our community to make changes to reduce their carbon footprint and support the environment. it's a fun event with the town split into zones. We'll be open on Sunday and we're donating our Sail Loft for workshops by our friend Vik from Maekandoo where you can come along, for free, and make protest pin badges. Take a look at how to pre-book here
Finally, on 24th June, Manningtree is having its own Pride event to raise awareness, educate and celebrate LGBTQ+ - there's a sports day, live music and entertainment, a dame show and all kinds of talks and seminars, a charity car wash, face painting and glitter design ... and there's evening cabaret and burlesque show too! Keep your eye on the Town's Instagram page for details.
Never miss an exhibition or event - keep an eye on our Sail Loft calendar.
A small favour...
Now, here's something that I wouldn't usually do but, what the heck, I'm going to give it a go this time! I've put myself forward for several categories in the Tendring4Growth business awards, and wondered whether I could ask for your support, if you feel that it's deserved?
I've entered the following categories (but am happy if you feel that you'd prefer to vote for others): Tourism; Creativity and Culture; Independent Retailer.
Thanks so much in advance - here's where you can vote. Closing date is this Sunday, 4th June.
And finally...

Don't miss our deadline for submitting work into our Summer Exhibition. Closing date for entries is Sunday 4th June. If you're a creative in any medium: watercolour, oil, pastel, ceramics, sculpture, photography, mixed media, textiles - take a look at all of the info here:

I've been working on three new pieces of nautical stitched art for the NaviStitch shop: 2 of them, Felixstowe Ferry and Levington are on vintage charts and framed in Pegu frames; the third is of Harwich/Shotley for those of you local sailors.
As well as commissions, I like to create stock pieces for you to enjoy from the hundreds of fabulous charts that I've collected - my work is designed to evoke great maritime memories. Remember, that Fathers' Day is just over 3 weeks away - just saying!
Enjoy the next few weeks - here's hoping that you choose to spend some of them in Manningtree!
Until next time, I wish you calm waters and plain sailing
Sam
